Notes

  • Communication in math is very important. In writing, as well as orally.
  • Snapshot of Geometry blog (SchoolBlog)
    • Teacher introduces blog with a model post, uses a calendar to assign posts and provides rubric for assessment. Quality of posts varies, but it was interesting to see that students provided constructive comments for posts lacking in content.
    • Other issues that teacher would address next time - dedicate more time to introductory activity, incorporate posts into class time, may change moderation settings, allow public access.
    • Incorporate personal images - students take their own pictures.
  • Statistics and Probability - Blog as Portfolio
    • Each student will have a blog to post about ongoing project.
    • Teacher will share rubric and ask for feedback from students.
    • Posts start with their question for project and comments/support/questions from peers.
    • Helpful to keep students organized and also the teacher.
